Hundreds of participants braved the morning coldness to grace the Aviation run 2022 that was flagged-off by the State Minister for works and Transport, Fred Byabakama.
The marathon was organized by Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) and Uganda Aeronautical Information service Officers’ Association (UGAISO).
The participants in both 5km and 10km run were flagged off at 7:15am and by the end of the race the best winners had been identified. In the 10km race, Agotre Premio, who emerged winner in 2019 once again emerged winner, Willy Kipsang Kirwa (2nd ), and Felix Ayiko (3rd ) among others. In the 5km race, Brian Baguma emerged winner, followed by Raymond Omara, Patrick Labeja (3rd ), Stephen Murengyera(4th ) and Innocent Otim(5th ).
Minister Byabakama revealed that the proceeds from the marathon will be used to
renovate Entebbe Children Welfare School on top of buying equipment for children with
impairments.
He added that engaging in a marathon is vital because it makes one physically fit and
one cannot easily get some preventative diseases.
Fred Bamwesigye, the Director general Uganda Civil Aviation Authority, said the
authority is committed to sponsoring similar marathons so that the proceeds can be
used to make some developments within the country.
Meanwhile, some of the winners were awarded with cash prize, flight tickets to fly
around different parts of the country and they attributed their success to regular work
outs and good coaches.(By Sadique Bamwita)
